Decorative cabinet knobs and wall hooks are touched often, so dust, fingerprints and everyday marks are normal. The safest starting point is gentle cleaning and the care guidance for the exact material and finish. Brass, shell inlay, marble and resin can react differently to the same cleaner.
General care rules
- Dust with a soft, clean cloth.
- Use only methods recommended for the product.
- Avoid abrasive pads, strong solvents and acidic cleaners unless confirmed suitable.
- Keep moisture from collecting around joints, screws and mounting points.
- Do not use a cleaner simply because it worked on a different material.
Brass and metal finishes
Some brass finishes are bright and polished; others are intended to look muted or aged. A harsh polish can change the appearance of an antique-style surface. Wipe away fingerprints with a soft cloth and follow the instructions before using any metal-cleaning product.
Mother-of-pearl and shell inlay
Shell surfaces have natural variation and a reflective finish. Avoid abrasive materials and prolonged soaking. If the care guide permits a damp cloth, use minimal moisture and dry the surface afterwards. Backing materials and finishes can differ between products.
Marble and stone
Stone can be sensitive to certain chemicals, including acidic cleaners. Use a soft cloth and the care method recommended for the specific stone and treatment. Do not assume every stone piece is sealed or that one cleaner suits all surfaces.
Resin and wood
Resin formulations and wood finishes vary. Avoid strong solvents and abrasive scrubbing unless the supplier confirms they are suitable. Keep wood details dry and follow the finish-specific guidance when removing marks.
Check the fitting while cleaning
Look for a loose screw or movement at the base. Follow installation instructions to tighten hardware correctly and avoid over-tightening, which can damage the fitting or furniture.
